Mr. Michael Gentles was appointed Postmaster General of Jamaica, with effect from August 1, 2006 having acted in the position in 2005. He is also the Chief Executive Officer of The Postal Corporation of Jamaica.
Prior to his appointment as Postmaster General, Mr. Gentles served as Deputy Postmaster General with portfolio responsibility for Operations. While in this post, he created the framework for the postal services’ most outstanding and sustained mail delivery performance in Jamaica’s history. The resulting heightened public and business confidence in the Post Office has charted a course for continuous revenue growth.
As Acting Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Gentles has represented his country in several overseas fora with such distinction that in 2006 he was recognised by his colleagues across the region by being unanimously elected as the General Secretary of the Caribbean Postal Union (CPU).
Mr. Gentles is a graduate of Knox College, and holds a BSc degree (Economics and Management studies) from the University of the West Indies (Mona) and an MBA from Barry University in the United States.
